Behind the Beauty at Color of Fashion

Color of Fashion Season VI will open with a runway segment dedicated to the hair and makeup artistry behind a runway show.

As a nonprofit, Color of Fashion doesn’t just put on a runway show. Founders Alicia Myers and Samantha Joseph work year round to invest in the fashion economy here in Denver and beyond by supporting every person involved in each event they put on, including the hair and makeup artists who work diligently behind the scenes to bring runway looks to life. 

As we prepare for Color of Fashion Season VI this Saturday, August 22, guests can expect an opening segment that showcases the true artistry behind runway hair and makeup. 

“This season feels like we have something for everyone, from everyday ready-to-wear to high fashion hair and makeup with custom 1-of-1 fits,” said Kyle Hamilton, the lead makeup artist this season. 

Attendees get the chance to see what happens backstage in the opening segment dedicated to styling hair and makeup specifically for the runway. The team works behind the scenes for months leading up to the show, and will have the chance to go above and beyond with their skillsets. When most runway segments are focused on the fashion on display, this is all about the hair and makeup. 

“My favorite part of CoF is that anyone can voice concern or opinions,” shared Hamilton, a long-time supporter and contributor to the Color of Fashion experience. “No one on this team is above constructive criticism, so it’s always a safe space for everyone to have their voice heard and make the show the best it can be. If one of my artists has a better idea than me, we’re running with it – no question.” 

The hair and makeup segment will feature student-run brand Lilith in the Sky by Lily Lee-tangredi. As a student at RMCAD, it’s Lee-tangredi’s first runway show. Her entirely hand-sewn collection is Victorian-inspired with lots of lace and black and white details. 

With the combination of Lilith in the Sky and elevated hair and makeup looks, this opening segment is just one example of Color of Fashion’s efforts to support the fashion economy. 

“The hair segment gives attendees a unique behind the scenes look at the artistry, creativity, and collaboration that bring a runway show to life,” said Tanaya Takahashi Aragon, Hair Lead and Master Stylist.

Alongside James Mucker, Hair Lead, Salon Owner and Master Stylist, Takahashi Aragon prepares the team “by creating mood boards, developing each look through hands-on workshops, and finalizing details for the runway to ensure every stylist can execute with precision in the fast paced backstage environment,” she said.

“By showcasing the artistry behind the scenes and the thoughtful collaboration between designers and hair artists, CoF continues to elevate Denver’s fashion scene while celebrating creativity, culture, and the incredible talent that makes it all possible.”
