IAMGRÜV Crafts a Multigenre Mosaic with Debut Album ‘SIN PIE’
Denver-based studio musician, visual artist, producer and philosopher IAMGRÜV is consistently immersed in creative visions. Their self-produced debut album ‘SIN PIE’ is a dynamic journey emerging from the study of sound and self.
For IAMGRÜV, music emerges from many avenues. Their artistic process is always evolving, inspired by a range of media, from Rothko’s vibrant paintings to nature sounds and frequencies, to André 3000’s musical versatility.
“We should allow ourselves to be inspired in a nonlinear way. Life is experimental. I find being in a box is the antithesis of being an artist. I am all of these art mediums and different people. We are all an amalgamation of what we love,” illustrated IAMGRÜV.

Mirroring IAMGRÜV’s expansive creative philosophy, ‘SIN PIE’ is a multigenre album woven together with electric connectivity. Each song investigates the importance of stepping in and out of different genres within ourselves.
“‘SIN PIE’ is a play on senpai, a nod to being a senior but not yet graduated. There’s always this learning aspect and it connects with concepts of coming to peace with a sense of internal sin,” illustrated IAMGRÜV.
‘SIN PIE’ seamlessly blends elements of rock, alternative hip-hop, folk, gospel and all the spaces in between to form a tenacious project. This debut album features upbeat tracks that leave you dancing like “GBTB” alongside contemplative, slower moments such as “Found Love” or ethereal instrumentals alongside powerful insights in “Blood Moon.” IAMGRÜV especially explores the growth-oriented, ever-shifting nature of their creation process through the poetically articulated track “Not A Rebrand.”
“This is what’s exciting and daunting about making art…people think it’s so much agency but oftentimes, you just have to create from experience, throw stuff at the wall and you end up with a mosaic,” explained GRÜV.
While diverse inspiration is essential to IAMGRÜV’s work, their first creative path began with poetry. Creative wordplay is evident throughout the entirety of ‘SIN PIE.’ Each track impressively toggles lyrical honesty with rich soundscapes, delving into vulnerable topics of mental health, love, doubts and spirituality.
‘SIN PIE’ approaches these heavy internal topics by transforming pain into art. “You are not alone. Dial 998 if you need someone to talk to. Remember your friends and community,” reminded IAMGRÜV.
While ‘SIN PIE’ explores intensity with therapeutic curiosity, IAMGRÜV balances deep contemplation through a joyful sense of self-discovery and love. IAMGRÜV’s honest discovery throughout ‘SIN PIE’ opens up a space for genuine connections and expanded perspectives. “Alter Calls” ends in a poetic prayer revealing IAMGRÜV’s internal struggles and deepest desires. This track is refreshingly sincere, showing IAMGRÜV’s artistic intentions to connect and share from the soul.

“The whole point of the project for me was pure therapy. I’m studying sound, studying myself and these weird pockets of in-betweenness,” said GRÜV.
This self-exploration was ultimately facilitated by community. After collaborating with friend Halle Nicholas for her music video project titled “The World Needs Your Art,” GRÜV was driven to share the rawest version of their artistry. IAMGRÜV explained that watching Nicholas’ immense passion and care for her work helped their creativity consciously flow.
“For ‘SIN PIE’ I had to release the idea of being an artist to be art. Launching into this project after working with Halle reminded me that the world needs this. There’s already a lot of noise out there, so why not throw your noise out there, too?” shared IAMGRÜV.
IAMGRÜV’s candid approach to art allows ‘SIN PIE’ to pierce through the noise. Substantial topics and emotional cohesion mirror IAMGRÜV’s values of reciprocal community. They want to continue developing intentional spaces within the Denver scene.
“I love the tabula rasa of it all. We get to create our own scene and I’m excited for what’s to come,” said IAMGRÜV.
Denver’s independent music scene is rooted in DIY creativity and connection. This clean slate allows IAMGRÜV and fellow artists to form extraordinary places of musical revelation.
