We Tried Fabric’s Hemp Beverages

Alcohol is always at our fingertips especially for us 20-somethings. Why not enjoy a drink with dinner? How can we say no to a tipsy night out with friends? But as studies emerge referencing the major shift in alcohol consumption among Gen Z’s, alternative ways to let loose are becoming hot. Knowledge about health and wellness is at our fingertips like never before in this digital age, leading to a decrease in alcohol consumption where 21.5% of Gen Z does not consume alcohol, and 39% drink only occasionally. Colorado specifically is one of the states seeing a major decline in alcohol consumption.

An alternative is Fabric, a THC-infused Australian Hop Water. Founded in Australia and now formulated and packaged in the U.S., the brand is hitting the shelves of liquor stores in the Mile High City faster than we can finish a can.

Haylee Jordan, Fabric’s Brand Designer, worked alongside CEO Tom Eddleston and fellow designer Anthony Bradley to develop a drink that falls within the 1.75 milligram requirement for THC drinks to be sold at liquor stores in Colorado. While dispensaries are legally protected — which explains why their rules and regulations are so strict down to the waiting rooms, accepting only debit cards or cash and a strict no phone policy to name a few — the legalities of selling hemp are still murky. Each state abides by different laws and the cannabis industry remains skeptical of hemp drinks. Jordan believes it’s due to the lack of knowledge about the products and the benefits they hold.

Someone who experiences adverse reactions to cannabis may not be able to walk into a dispensary and find a low dose option that hemp drinks can offer. There’s also a barrier to entry in dispensaries for those who aren’t familiar with cannabis and the industry—as mentioned above, dispensaries are honestly just weird. Even frequent cannabis users could benefit from a low dosage beverage that will provide a light high that allows them to be social and avoid the couch potato reality that sometimes results from ingesting weed.

“It’s really an entry point for lots of people looking into cutting back on alcohol,” said Jordan. “We were making it a brand for Gen Z, but… a lot of people in their 50s and 60s are really grabbing [Fabric] because they’re cutting back on alcohol.”

With the slogan “UNFK TMRW,” Fabric’s branding is what makes the drinks stand out on the shelves. The three flavors, Clarity, Rhythm and Downtime, come in 6-packs equipped with a card that explains the typical timeline for the drink to kick in while outlining the expected effects. Each drink has zero calories and zero sugar, solidifying Fabric as a better alternative to alcohol.

Fabric plans to give 2% of their revenue to mental health initiatives. As the brand continues to grow, the team is searching for the right partner who is willing to embrace the nature of the hemp drink and the mission to “unfk tmrw.”

We Tried rhythm

We love to spend weekends out with friends but in a perfect world, we can hit the town, get eight hours of sleep and wake up to do a workout class and hit a farmers market the next day. A brutal hangover that sometimes results from just two drinks at dinner has always prevented us from doing that and we have spent too many weekends recovering from the alcohol consumed the evening before. At one point, there was no chance we’d make it to a workout class and it was nearly Tuesday afternoon when we finally felt like ourselves again after a weekend drinking.

We have been embracing cannabis drinks lately but they either knock us out or result in increased anxiety. Until we tried Fabric.

Fabric allows us to be the version of ourselves that can enjoy a night out with friends, save the copious amounts of money we spend on drinks out, and wake up the next day to go to my workout class with a full day ahead. We sleep better, our bodies feels better and our brain is clear—what a concept?!

We tried Fabric Rhythm in multiple settings: on a Sunday afternoon to be productive, before a social outing and while making dinner. We felt light, refreshed and well equipped to enjoy ourselves in all three circumstances. The effects weren’t major due to my tolerance, but it was noticeable and enjoyable. It helps that we love the flavor.

Our tomorrow isn’t fckd anymore thanks to Fabric – grab a pack of your own at one of the many liquor stores across Colorado where it’s now available, including, Mayfair Liquors, Hugo’s Colorado Beer & Spirits, Depew Liquors, Morgans Liquors, Small Batch Liquors, Congress Park Market, Spinelli’s Specialty Wine & Spirits, Sobo Liquors, Mondo Vino and Argonaut.
