Based in Tacoma, Washington, Meldrop is a five piece boy band sure to win your heart. Freshly formed in 2022, Meldrop brings a distinctly modern indie rock sound that can turn to a jazzy breakdown at any given moment. All five members met while bussing tables at the Lobster Shop in Tacoma, where a casual jam session quickly turned into something much more.
“I just thought it would be a cool little jam session after work,” recalled Meldrop’s drummer, Elijah Tuncap, “but we quickly realized we had something special.”
In preparation for their first show, the band set out to find a name for itself, which included exploring a list of the ten rarest words in the English language. One of the rare words on the list was Meldrop, which according to Merriam-Webster, means a drop of mucus at the end of your nose.

Now roughly four years into performing and recording, the group is dedicated to working in music full time. With the unique composition of the group also comes a distinctive creative process, in which each member often brings their ideas to the table for everyone to build around.
“Each of us writes his own part, which does make the whole process feel very collaborative,” described Tuncap.
This collaborative energy can be heard in the many layers of each Meldrop track and the surprising twists the melodies often take. With dynamic energy that pulls the group towards more of a jam band genre, the live performance is sure to be filled with exciting chemistry.

Modern tales of longing, dreams, and the one that got away are staples in the Meldrop discography, with the occasional slow jam to really pull at listener’s heartstrings.
“Our music is generally about youthfulness,” explained Tuncap. “A lot of the themes of our songs (love, mental health, or missing home) are common things that young people experience. I think we write based on our own experiences, and so our music is a reflection of us learning about life.”
Despite the narratives of lost love, there’s something distinctly goofy about the casual and comfortable nature of Meldrop’s sound that is undeniably inviting. Listeners will feel at home within the upbeat melodies and embraced by the lyrical honesty. With their youthful energy, Meldrop brings a very optimistic note to the trials and tribulations that their music works through.
“Do what brings you joy! Life will try to get you down during the week, but it’s important to do things that make you happy,” emphasized Tuncap.

Alongside the current tour, fans have a new album to look forward to, titled “Cascadia.”
“’Cascadia’, is a tribute to the Pacific Northwest,” highlighted Tuncap. “It’s an ode to the place where four of us grew up, but all five of us now call home.”
As the band moves to bigger stages and brighter lights, the band members still hold a special place in their heart’s for the Tacoma scene that Meldrop was born out of.
“The people in the Tacoma music scene are some of the kindest and most supportive folks we’ve ever had the pleasure of interacting with,” said Tuncap. “House shows out there, especially in our early days, had an energy that we haven’t quite experienced anywhere else.”
Meldrop is coming to Lost Lake on April 4 for a stop on their “Good From Afar” tour through the western half of the U.S. This will be Meldrop’s first ever show in Denver and certainly not one to miss.
